About Brett

Brett Guy is a Design Technologist and multi-medium artist. His building design projects have won several awards. He's lived and worked in 4 different countries and been travelling the world for 30 years. Originally from Canada, he now lives in Singapore. After studying history and philosophy at the University of Guelph in Canada, Brett went on to BCIT in British Columbia, and Graduated as a Design Technologist in 2004.
Born in 1967, he's also an artist who's spent all his life exploring different mediums of artistic expression. He comes from a family of prolific and eclectic artists. After an inspired childhood, Brett left home alone as a teenager, with $20 in his pocket and went to live in the UK, before ending up in Africa. While working to pay his way in different cultures, he continued to develop his artistic skills. Eventually, he returned to Canada to continue his formal education.
Eye speak human is his latest graphite art series. He creates detailed, intimate portraits of people's character and aims to capture the spirit of his subjects facing the world they live in. The viewer is confronted with the stark absence of alienation and compelled to reconsider the notions that separate them from others.
Brett’s work is a preliminary response to the challenges facing our planet today. The existence of life is threatened. It will take respect and cooperation to keep the world safe and liveable. His portraits gently expose the vulnerability of being human and attempt to deconstruct preconceptions. His drawings ask us to remember how important it is to care for each other, while giving a glimpse of what's at stake if we don’t.
